Drawing on graph paper
- Use coloured pencils rather than markers so you can erase and reshade.
- Mark the centre first and draw outward, just as you would stitch.
- Keep a key at the edge of the sheet as you add colours, with DMC numbers from the DMC chart.
Questions stitchers ask
Will the grid print at the right size?
Choose “Actual size” or 100% scale in the print dialog (not “Fit to page”). The grid is set in real inches, so a 14-count sheet has 14 squares per inch, matching the fabric.
Why not always use 10 squares per inch?
You can — a bigger grid is easier to draw on. Printing at your fabric’s true count lets you hold the paper against the cloth and see the finished size.
